Most of the procedures listed in this section can be accomplished at the thermostat or using the Lennox Home App. The homeowner can manually put the system into away mode by pressing the Away icon. In away mode, the Away set points are used to control the system. The homeowner can modify the Away set points from the default values in Menu > Settings > Away. Smart Away is turned on for your system to run smart schedule. Use the Lennox Smart Thermostat app to control the temperatures in your home while you are away. Please make sure to install the S40 Thermostat App to participate in Smart Away. Selecting this menu item allows the homeowner to rename their system. There are currently 2 mobile devices participating.
- Page 27: Smart Away feature depends on the Lennox Home App running on the homeowner’s mobile device and being logged in to their account. The system will start to either increase or reduce the heating or cooling set point when the closest participating mobile device moves into the transition range. Once all participating mobile devices have moved beyond the specified range, the system sets the set points to the Away set points. Requires Wi-Fi and location settings to be enabled on the homeowner’s mobile device. Smart Away can be enabled from the mobile device once the Lennox Home App has been installed and launched. It is possible to have more than one mobile device participating in Smart Away for this system. The inner Away Fence is set by the user anywhere between 2 to 6 miles on the Lennox Home App. The outer fence for each participating mobile device will be automatically calculated by the Smart Away algorithm. Location services will need to be enabled for Smart Away to work correctly on mobile devices. Once all participating mobile devices have moved outside the transition range, the homeowner’s Away set points will be used to control the system.
- Page 28: Using Smart Room Sensors Homeowners can include individual Smart Room Sensors for better Feels Like™ control of the entire home. The temperature detected at each sensor factors into the Feels Like™ result when enabled. Ensure location services for the Smart Away feature are not auto-disabled by the Android operating system. When setting up the Lennox Home App, users must enable permissions for precise location. Feels Like™ is not a temperature setting but reflects the temperature based on current outdoor, indoor temperature, and indoor humidity. Sleep Mode allows one or more Smart Room Sensors to be the primary source for temperature in a room. Sleep Mode can turn off the temperature sensor in the main S40 Smart Thermostat. At least one Smart Room Sensor must be active during Sleep Mode, but multiple sensors can be set to Sleep Mode. Feels Like temperatures factor in outdoor temperature and indoor humidity for more accurate control. The words Feels Like™ will appear above the indoor temperature display when this feature is set to On.
- Page 29: Go to Menu > Settings > Current Temperature. The Sleep Mode feature displays beneath Participating Devices in Temperature Averaging Based on Sleep. Enable/disable Sleep Mode by clicking the toggle switch. When Sleep Mode is enabled, the time scheduling fields From and To display. Scroll to set the hour and minute to begin Sleep Mode. Select the Smart Room Sensor(s) and/or thermostat to participate in temperature averaging. The sensor(s) and Sleep Mode schedule display as confirmation of selections. Refer to figures for visual guidance on the Sleep Mode feature and settings.
- Page 30: At least one Smart Room Sensor must be ON to calculate the current temperature. This screen allows changes to how the system operates, including options for single set-point, heat pump mode, auxiliary heat, and safety protection. The Perfect Temperature option is available only in non-zoning systems, allowing control of both heating and cooling temperatures with one setting. When set to Perfect Temp, the Heat • Cool position indicator changes, displaying Auto instead of the normal mode. Perfect Temp is not compatible with Google Assistant, which cannot adjust the home temperature. The Heat Pump Mode option is available only with systems using a heat pump, with settings for normal and comfort. Auxiliary heat is used when the heat pump's capacity is insufficient, sometimes referred to as supplemental heat. Balance Point puts temperature limits on when the heat pump and auxiliary heat can operate together or independently. Allergen Defender can be turned on or off to help clean the air when the pollen count is high. Air circulation can be adjusted between 9 to 27 minutes per hour, running during any selected mode except when the system is off.
- Page 31: Humidity control options include settings for outdoor temperatures affecting heat sources. The system allows for both humidify and dehumidify options depending on installed accessories. Safety protection alerts homeowners when indoor temperatures reach set low or high thresholds. Humidification control options vary based on climate conditions and accessory installation. Dew point percentage slider adjustment tools are available for normal and max settings. Dehumidification set point percentage can be adjusted between 40% to 60%, with a default of 55%. No dehumidification accessory installed limits options to basic and max settings for humidity control. Dew point adjustments help manage condensation on windows, with a default setting of OFF. Overcooling adjustments are available to limit cooling while achieving dehumidification set points. Certain dehumidification settings are not applicable for systems using iHarmony zoning.
- Page 32: Climate IQ (Auto) automatically adjusts system run-time based on dehumidification set point and local weather conditions obtained from the Internet. Both overcooling and dehumidification set point slider adjustment tools are available for both Max and Climate IQ (Auto). The overcooling adjustment slider tool limits overcooling between 0ºF to 4ºF. Humidify + Dehumidify settings allow a combination of both humidification and dehumidification settings. When dew point is set to OFF, a dual purpose slider adjustment tool allows the homeowner to adjust the set point percentage for both humidification and dehumidification. Staged outdoor unit is recommended when the outdoor air is excessively humid. Variable capacity outdoor unit adjusts cooling based on installed duct sensor data and is recommended when the outdoor air is excessively humid. Discharge air temperature sensor is required for these thermostat modes to control relative humidity between 15% and 45%. This feature is applicable only to Lennox communicating thermostats with either Lennox communicating staged or variable capacity outdoor units. The following conditions must be met for either mode to operate: humidification mode has been enabled, unit is in HEAT mode, and humidification demand exists.
- Page 33: Smart zoning system Lennox Smart Zoning Control only functions with Lennox communicating systems. The Lennox Smart Room Sensor is not compatible with systems using the Lennox Smart Zoning System (iHarmony). By default, zoning is ON on the zoning control screen. If the homeowner wishes to place the system into central mode, then this setting must be OFF. The system will continue to fulfill the demand from zone 1 until satisfied or a maximum time of 20 minutes has been reached. After a five-minute delay, the system will begin operations to satisfy the cooling demand from zone 2. Dew point adjustment mode will change the humidification set point based on the outdoor temperature. Cooling demand is terminated when all zone demands for cooling are terminated. When Dehumidify is selected, a Dehumidification Set-Point adjustment tool is available and allows adjustments between 50% to 60%. Second stage cooling is energized when the discharge air temperature is 7°F higher than the set point of the cooling staging temperature settings.
- Page 34: Heating operation requires the consumer to register with their utility provider to enable the Peak Monitoring feature. When a zone thermostat demands heating, the zone damper opens, and heating equipment begins operating. Heating demand is terminated when all zone demands for heating are terminated or when the demand exceeds the changeover time limit while a cooling demand exists. A five-minute minimum off-time delay is initiated when heating demand is terminated. Enabling energy savings may result in a pop-up screen indicating success or failure. Second-stage heating activates if the discharge air temperature is lower than the heating staging temperature set point. Homeowners can enroll in energy savings by following on-screen prompts and verifying their utility provider's Demand Response Program. Reminders for maintenance can be set for various accessories, including filter replacements and UV bulb changes. Homeowners can customize temperature or pricing set points through their energy provider's settings. Peak Monitoring is a feature requirement for California, allowing utility companies to control the thermostat during peak energy events.
- Page 35: Canceling peak monitoring event is an option available on the Home screen. During an active energy savings event, updating certain settings will prompt a confirmation pop-up. PureAir S is an air purification system that addresses airborne particles, germs, and chemical odors. The option to cancel enrollment in Energy Savings is found in the settings menu. PureAir S utilizes a MERV 16 air filter, UVA light, and catalyst for air purification. Lennox Wireless Extenders and Smart Room Sensors can only be managed through the Lennox Home App. Ventilation options appear if a fresh air damper, ERV, or HRV is installed and configured. The homeowner can rename the thermostat and access information such as model and serial numbers. Ventilation mode offers selections for timed or ASHRAE settings, determined by the installer. Automatic updates for the thermostat are set to ON by default.
- Page 36: What is ASHRAE? ASHRAE 62.2 is a national standard that provides methods for achieving acceptable indoor air quality in typical residences. One of the standard three main components is whole house ventilation which is exhausting stale indoor air and replacing it with fresh outdoor air. The exhaust fan dilutes the air in the main living spaces with outside air to remove unavoidable contaminants. The whole house fan flow rate is determined based on the floor space and the number of bedrooms. The Lennox Smart Room Sensor is not compatible with systems that have the Lennox Smart Zoning System installed. The Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat can support up to six Lennox Smart Room Sensors. This section is for installers and technicians ONLY to customize system settings and run various diagnostic tests. The first device must be added by the technician in order to create the smart devices network. Unregister System means that the thermostat will no longer be linked to the homeowner’s email account. Options are to restart Smart Hub, thermostat, or both.
- Page 37: Selecting sensor settings allows the homeowner to include or exclude a specific Smart Room Sensor from temperature averaging. Verify that the sensor is not in direct sunlight, discharge vents, unconditioned space, or any other environmental conditions that could affect the temperature reading. If the Smart Room Sensor is in a suitable location and the actual room temperature does not match what the sensor is reporting, then the sensor may need to be replaced. Room averaging can be set using either the thermostat or Lennox Home app. Refer to the Smart Room Sensor Setup and Installation guide for information on devices, placement, and pairing with the S40 Smart Thermostat. The occupancy detection feature is built into every sensor, with settings for ON and OFF. When the occupancy feature is turned OFF, the thermostat will always include the sensor in temperature averaging. When the occupancy feature is turned ON, the thermostat will only include the sensor in temperature averaging if the room is occupied. The sensor temperature difference limit feature compares Smart Room Sensor readings to the thermostat's detected temperature. If the temperature reading difference is less or greater than 7ºF, the sensor will be excluded from participating in temperature averaging.
- Page 38: Lennox Smart Air Quality Monitor The Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat will begin displaying information from the Smart Air Quality Monitor once there is a blower/cooling/heating demand. Until the first thermostat demand, the SAQM will indicate it is calculating. When the Smart Air Quality Monitor detects poor indoor air quality (IAQ), it will pass that information on to the thermostat which will attempt to clean the air. If no IAQ equipment is installed, the thermostat will run the indoor unit blower to circulate air. A solid blue light indicates the signal strength is low or has lost connection to the thermostat. No blue light indicates signal strength is good. A flashing green light indicates the unit is in pairing mode. This device can only be installed by a professional installer. A single Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat can support one Lennox Smart Air Quality Monitor. The primary reason for the side switch is to turn off the internal fan if the device is installed in a bedroom.
- Page 39: The side switch on the SAQM when in the UP position turns on the internal fan and transmits air quality data to the thermostat. When the switch is set to the DOWN position, it will turn off the internal fan and stop air quality data to the thermostat. From the thermostat Home screen, select My Home. Select the Smart Air Quality Monitor icon to view the current details concerning your indoor air quality. An alert code 70003 displays, which indicates the switch is OFF. Homeowners can sign up to receive monthly performance reports of their system’s overall performance when customizing their thermostats. While the switch is in the DOWN position, the latest reading from the SAQM will be displayed on the thermostat. The dealer and homeowner may receive an email indicating that Alert Code 70003 is a no cool, no heat condition. PM stands for particulate matter, the term for a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are a combination of gases and odors released from a variety of sources.
- Page 40: View details and postpone cleaning air. When the Lennox Smart Air Quality Monitor detects poor air quality, it activates the indoor unit fan or other air quality devices. Homeowners can view details or postpone air cleaning from the thermostat home screen. Options to postpone air cleaning include 1, 2, 4, 8, or 24 hours. The most current information from Lennox is available via QR codes on QuickStart Guides or product packaging. An icon displays on the home screen when the system is cleaning the air. Select Monitor Settings > Level of Indoor Air Cleanliness to adjust air quality settings. Options for air cleanliness levels are High, Medium, and Basic. For third-party applications to function, the thermostat must be connected to the Internet. Users can control the thermostat with Amazon Alexa after integrating it with the Amazon Alexa app.
- Page 41: Even though the thermostat supports half degree settings in Celsius, currently, users can pair only one home that is listed in their Lennox User Account with Amazon Alexa. Amazon Alexa only supports whole degrees. The first temperature adjustment that gets made will set the temperature to a whole degree, if it was not already. In Heat/Cool mode, the system can automatically switch between heating and cooling as needed. Amazon Alexa will confirm the request by saying, “Hallway is in Auto mode, aiming for 70 degrees.” Download the Google Home app from Google Play or the App Store on a compatible mobile device and then follow the on-screen steps to finish setup. Raising or lowering the temperature is not supported when using a schedule or Perfect Temp feature. The following voice commands must be used for systems that remain as “System” or “system.” If the thermostat is in Away or Smart Away mode, any Amazon Alexa commands to change thermostat temperature will not be successful.
