- Page 1: Model: 1F86EZ-0251 Emerson Blue Easy Set Non-programmable thermostat with 3 temperature pre-sets Installation instructions and user guide Congratulations on choosing the Emerson Blue Easy Set thermostat. This thermostat features Home, Sleep, and Away temperature pre-sets. Included with the Easy Set is the same temperature accuracy and reliability you expect from all the Emerson Blue thermostats. This thermostat is intended for use with a low voltage NEC Class II system. Do not exceed the specification ratings. All wiring must conform to local and national electrical codes and ordinances. This control is a precision instrument and should be handled carefully.
- Page 2: Get to know your thermostat. Familiarize yourself with its features, display, and the location and operation of the buttons and switches. The thermostat buttons include options to raise or lower the temperature setting and to switch between system modes (cool, off, heat) and fan settings (on, auto). The display indicates the desired temperature and system mode, with icons for heat and cool. Save indicates the Cool Savings feature is enabled and operating. Change Filter is displayed as a reminder to change or clean your air filter after a programmed time period. Batteries are included, and it is recommended to replace them every two years with premium alkaline batteries. If the home will be unoccupied for over three months, replace the batteries before leaving. Low battery power will trigger a temperature change to alert you to replace the batteries. Installation must conform to Class II circuits per NEC code to avoid fire hazards.
- Page 3: Using your thermostat You can set your Home, Sleep, and Away temperatures for use when you get home, go to sleep, or leave home. Move the SYSTEM switch to HEAT position. Press and hold the Home, Sleep, or Away button for 3 seconds to save your pre-set. Factory pre-set temperatures for heating are 70°F and for cooling are 75°F. The sleep timer will automatically change the thermostat from the Sleep to Home temperature after the number of hours set in the configuration menu. The change filter reminder will display after the number of hours set in the configuration menu. With Cool Savings enabled, the thermostat will make small adjustments to the desired temperature during periods of high demand. The display will flash “Save” when the Cool Savings feature is active and making adjustments. The amount of adjustments to the desired temperature is dependent on the Cool Savings value that is set. When the Cool Savings feature is set to OFF, no change will occur during periods of high demand.
- Page 4: Installation instructions for the thermostat are provided. To remove the old thermostat, turn off power to the heating and cooling system. Disconnect the wires from the old thermostat one at a time, ensuring they do not fall back into the wall. For the new thermostat, open the battery door and detach the cover from the base. Mark mounting hole locations on the wall before drilling. Connect each wire from the wall to its corresponding terminal as indicated in the manual. The GAS/ELEC switch must be set according to the system configuration. The O/B switch is factory set to the “O” position for heat pump applications. Check the operation of the heating and cooling systems after installation. Adjust the thermostat settings to test the system's response.
- Page 5: Installation The configuration menu allows you to set certain thermostat operating characteristics to your system or personal requirements. Select Single Stage (SS) or Heat Pump (HP) for a single compressor. Select Sleep Timer On or OFF. Select 1 to 12 hours for Sleep Timer On. Select Cool Savings Feature On or OFF. Select Adjustable Anticipation, cycle rate for Heat. Select Compressor Lockout OFF or On. Select Display Light On or OFF. Select room temperature display for 4°F higher or 4°F lower than the actual temperature. Select filter maintenance indicator OFF or On.
- Page 6: Troubleshooting Reset operation for approximately 10 seconds until the display goes blank. If the thermostat has power, has been reset and still does not function correctly, contact your heating/cooling service person or place of purchase. If a voltage spike or static discharge blanks out the display or causes erratic thermostat operation, you may need to reset the thermostat. Symptom: No Heat/No Cool/No Fan Possible causes include a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker, furnace power switch turned off, or a loose blower compartment door. Corrective actions include replacing the fuse, turning the switch to ON, and ensuring the door panel is properly installed. For no heat, ensure the system switch is set to heat and verify connections to the thermostat. Diagnostic: If the thermostat does not click after being reset, contact your heating and cooling service person for a replacement. For no cool, set the system switch to cool and check connections to the thermostat. If the heat, cool, or fan runs constantly, check for possible shorts in wiring or the thermostat. Furnace cycles too fast or too slow may require adjustment of the cycle rate in the configuration menu. If the thermostat setting and thermometer disagree, adjust the thermometer setting as needed. A blank display or unresponsive keypad may indicate a voltage spike or static discharge.
- Page 7: Technical data Typical wiring diagram for single transformer single stage systems Changeover relay is energized in COOL when O/B switch is in the “O” position. Changeover relay is energized in HEAT when O/B switch is in the “B” position. Typical wiring diagram for two transformer single stage systems with NO safety circuits. If safety circuits are in only one of the systems, remove the transformer of the system with NO safety circuits. Two commons must be jumpered together. Typical wiring diagram for two transformer single stage systems with safety circuits in BOTH systems. Polarity must be observed to avoid damage to equipment. Accessory relay scheme is required when safety circuits exist in both systems.
