EMERSON 1F75C-11PR Programmable Thermostat Installation Guide Overview

Summary of Contents

  • Page 1: Installation and operating instructions for the 1F75C-11PR programmable thermostat. The thermostat can be battery powered or hardwired with common. Programming is made simple, with details available on page 7. The thermostat is suitable for various applications including conventional gas, oil, electric, heat only, cool only, or heat/cool systems. It can also be used with heat pumps (air source or geothermal) without auxiliary heat. The product does not contain mercury, but may replace a product that does. Refer to specific guidelines for disposing of products containing mercury. Specifications include electrical ratings, setpoint range, and operating conditions. The thermostat dimensions are 3-3/4” H x 6” W x 1-1/8” D. Troubleshooting information is provided on pages 7-8.
  • Page 2: Thermostat installation requires adherence to the equipment manufacturer’s instructions for specific system wiring information. Refer to the installer menu for proper thermostat configuration after wiring. The wiring table describes the thermostat terminal functions for typical systems. Terminal designations include RC, RH, O/B, Y, G, W, and C, each serving specific functions related to power and relay operations. Leveling the thermostat is for appearance only and does not affect its operation. Do not exceed the specification ratings and ensure all wiring conforms to local and national electrical codes. Handle the control carefully as it is a precision instrument; rough handling may cause malfunction. Disconnect electrical power to the system before installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage. Do not short out terminals on the gas valve or primary control, as incorrect wiring can lead to thermostat burnout and personal injury. Warnings and cautions emphasize the importance of following safety protocols during installation.
  • Page 3: Battery location requires premium AA alkaline batteries when C-wire is not available. When C-wire is available, batteries provide a back-up source of power. The gas/electric switch must be set to electric for heat pumps or electric furnaces and to gas for gas or oil furnaces. The O/B terminal switch is factory set to the O position for most heat pump applications. If a B terminal is required, the switch must be moved to the B position. The thermostat connects the RC and RH terminals electrically, eliminating the need for a jumper wire unless separate wires are provided. To access the installer’s menu, set the system switch to the OFF position and press and hold the temperature buttons for 3 seconds. Heat cycle rate determines how often the heat will turn on, with default settings available. Cool cycle rate determines how often the cooling will turn on, with specific settings provided. Compressor lockout protects the compressor from short cycling, with options for a 5-minute display delay or no delay. Maximum heat limit sets the maximum set point for heat mode, while minimum cool limit sets the minimum set point for cool mode. Schedule type can be set as either 7-Day, 5-1-1 Day, or Non-Programmable.
  • Page 4: Installer's Menu Early Start: Starts heating or cooling early to reach programmed temperature by programmed time. Temperature Display Adjustment: Adjust the displayed room temperature. Continuous Display Light: Keeps the backlight always on, requiring a C wire. Change Air Filter: Set up a monthly reminder for filter changes. Fan Operation: Move fan switch to On position to operate blower; switch to Auto to stop. Heating System: Adjust thermostat setting to 1° above room temperature to start heating. Cooling System: Adjust thermostat setting to 1° below room temperature to start cooling. Compressor Lockout Feature: Indicates a delay before the compressor turns on. Caution: Do not operate the cooling system if outdoor temperature is below 50°F. Compressor Operation: Ensure compressor oil heaters have been operational for 6 hours before running the system.
  • Page 5: Using the thermostat Thermostat overview Before you begin using your thermostat, you should be familiar with its features, display and the location/operation of the thermostat buttons and switches. Thermostat buttons and switches The display Fan switch System switch Set correct time Hold a permanent temperature or run program Access programming Battery status indicator Low battery indicator Whenever Replace appears in the display, new premium brand AA alkaline batteries should be installed.
  • Page 6: Thermostat operation involves setting the current time and day, with icons flashing at initial power up or after a reset. To set the time, press the Set Time button and adjust the hour and minutes. The default program is 5-1-1 Day, but it can be set as a 7-Day or Non-Programmable thermostat. Hold Temperature allows you to bypass the schedule by pressing the Hold button and adjusting the temperature. Program Override lets you temporarily hold a desired temperature until the next programmed time period, with a minimum override of 2 hours. The thermostat is programmed with energy-saving settings for all days of the week. The heating schedule includes specific temperatures at designated times throughout the day. To enter your program, start by setting the current time and day using the TIME button. You can enter the heating program by moving the SYSTEM switch to HEAT and pressing the PRGM button. The display will indicate the weekday program when setting the heating program.
  • Page 7: Display shows the currently programmed start time for the 1st heating period and the currently programmed temperature. Press or to change the displayed temperature for the 1st heating program period. Press PROGRAM once to change the programmed time, which will flash. Repeat steps to select the start time and heating temperature for the 2nd heating program period. Press PROGRAM once to change to Sunday heating programming and repeat steps to complete Sunday programming. When you have completed entering your heating program, press RUN/HOLD. Move SYSTEM switch to COOL position to enter the cooling program. If the outside temperature is below 50°F, disconnect power to the cooling system before programming. Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker may require replacement or resetting. Verify thermostat and system wires are securely attached for proper operation.
  • Page 8: Troubleshooting section outlines symptoms, possible causes, and corrective actions for HVAC systems. Common symptoms include the system switch not set to cool, loose connections, and the need for service or thermostat replacement. For No Cool issues, verify wire connections and reset the thermostat. Thermostat display discrepancies may require adjustment, which can be done through the user menu. Digital thermostats cycle faster than older models, and cycle time can be adjusted in the installer menu. Heating or cooling systems may struggle to reach setpoints within specified time frames. If the display shows -- for room temperature, a thermostat replacement is necessary. Buttons on the thermostat may become unresponsive; check for keypad lockout. Resetting the thermostat involves removing batteries for two minutes or using specific button combinations to restore factory settings. A warning is included regarding chemicals known to cause cancer and reproductive harm.
