Introduction
This product can be operated in any Z-Wave network with other
Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery-
operated nodes within the network will act as repeaters regardless
of manufacturer to increase reliability of the network. On delivery,
the device does not belong to any Z-Wave network. The device
needs to be added to an existing network to communicate with
the devices of this network. Devices can also be removed from
a network. Both adding and removing process are initiated by the
primary controller of the Z-Wave network.

Heatit Z-TEMP2 Thermostat Installation Guide Overview

Summary of Contents

  • Page 1: Heatit Z-Temp2 is a battery-operated thermostat designed for use with water-based heating systems. This device may be used with all devices certified with the Z-Wave Plus™ certificate and should be compatible with such devices produced by other manufacturers. The device needs to be added to an existing network to communicate with the devices of this network. Devices can also be removed from a network. The device can only be added or removed from the network if the primary controller is in add/remove mode. When the device is removed from the network, it will revert to factory default settings. Install the batteries as stated in the technical specification. Set the controller/gateway in add mode before including the thermostat. Make sure the mounting surface is clean and dry before installation. Be careful when installing batteries, ensuring the polarity is correct.
  • Page 2: Factory reset can be performed by pressing and holding the link button for 20 seconds. Use the factory reset procedure only when the primary controller or gateway is missing or inoperable. The thermostat uses temperature readings from the internal sensor and is designed for water-based heating solutions. Heatit Z-Temp2 is recommended to be used with Heatit Z-Water for an advanced water-based heating solution. Communication between Heatit Z-Temp2 and the controlled device is wireless. The thermostat can also be used in situations where a traditional electrical thermostat is not suitable. There are two methods to add devices to a Z-Wave network: standard (manual) and SmartStart (automatic). The main screen displays measured temperature or relative humidity, which can be switched by pressing the center button. The secondary screen shows the setpoint temperature when the thermostat is in heating mode. To link the thermostat to the heating control device, use association groups from the thermostat’s root device.
  • Page 3: Setting and removing associations may be assigned and removed via Z-Wave commands. You can make changes to the hysteresis in the thermostat via the parameter, ranging from 0.3°C up to a maximum of 3.0°C. Child lock is activated by pressing the left and right buttons for 10 seconds, and changes from the display are not possible in this mode. The lifeline group sends various reports including battery status and device reset notifications. The thermostat will automatically go to standby screen when untouched for a while, and can be activated by proximity or by pressing any button. The QR Code is needed for including devices using S2-Security or SmartStart. Z-Wave products are designed to work out of the box, but configuration can enhance functionality. The S2 security enhances Z-Wave Plus with AES 128-bit encryption to prevent hacking. The node information frame contains details about the device type and technical features. Associations allow Z-Wave devices to interact, with controlling devices maintaining a list of subordinate devices for command transmission.
  • Page 4: Parameter 5: Humidity offset settings adjust the measured relative humidity. To set negative values; 65 535 – desired value + 1. Parameter 14: Report when presence is detected decides if the thermostat sends temperature when presence is detected. Do not report to gateway when presence is detected, only at interval. Parameter 6: Proximity sensor retrigger interval determines the time to send temperature report when presence is detected. Parameter 7: Proximity sensor enable/disable allows choosing if the proximity sensor is used or not. Parameter 8: LED maximum brightness adjusts the backlight of the LCD display. Parameter 9: LED turned on before timeout adjusts the time from proximity sensor/display touched until display goes to sleep. Parameter 10: Temperature control hysteresis adjusts the delta values for the thermostat to turn on/off heating. Parameter 11: Minimum temperature limit sets the minimum temperature limit. Parameter 12: Maximum temperature limit sets the maximum temperature limit. Parameter 13: External relay & operating state update interval sets how often the device sends Binary Switch Set and thermostat mode to the gateway.
  • Page 5: Supported command classes The device supports both S0, S2 Authenticated security and S2 Unauthenticated security. Z-Wave thermostat for controlling external relays Internal room sensor Humidity sensor Proximity sensor to turn on the display Automatic brightness control Firmware updates (OTA) This product is a security-enabled Z-Wave Plus product with encryption. The device is maintenance-free, but must never be covered.
