Important
KPU 19 thermostats are fitted with
Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT)
or Single-Pole Single-Throw (SPST)
contact system.
The KPU 19 thermostat is designed
only for use as a temperature
regulating operating control. It is
the responsibility of the installer
to verify that other necessary
safety controls are installed and
functioning properly as intended
by the original equipment
The standard KPU 19 enclosure is rated
NEMA ~ 1.
NEMA ~ 1 is obtained when the
thermostat is mounted on a flat surface
with all unused holes covered.

Danfoss KPU 19 Thermostat Installation Guide Overview
Summary of Contents
- Page 1: Installation guide for KPU 19 thermostat outlines its application in temperature regulation for various systems. KPU 19 thermostats are used for refrigeration, freezing, air conditioning, ventilating, and heating systems. The thermostat is fitted with SPDT or SPST contact systems. It is designed solely for temperature regulating control, with the installer responsible for additional safety controls. The standard enclosure is rated NEMA ~ 1, achieved when mounted on a flat surface with unused holes covered. Product specifications include regulating differential, capillary tube length, and contact type. The KPU 19 model has a temperature range of -30 to 80 °F and a maximum bulb ambient temperature of 140 °F. Different models include variations in contact type and reset type. Dimensions and mounting details are provided for proper installation. The document includes specific codes for different KPU 19 models.
- Page 2: Installation Select an accessible location for the thermostat to avoid damage. Mount the KPU 19 on a bracket or flat surface to ensure proper operation. Use only the provided mounting holes and avoid making additional holes. Fastening at position “B” may cause housing deformation and malfunction. The thermostat and sensing bulb can be mounted in any position. Fast changes in measured temperature will cause lag in thermostat readings. Install the thermostat where harmful environmental conditions are minimized. Avoid denting or deforming the bulb to prevent damage. Protect the capillary tube from vibration and damage. Wiring All wiring should conform to the National Electrical Code and local regulations. Use only copper wire and the terminal screws furnished in the terminal block. Disconnect the power supply before making any wiring connections. Do not exceed the thermostat’s specified electrical ratings. The terminal block and grounding screw are accessible after removing the front cover.
- Page 3: Wiring options For cooling unit For heating unit Cut-out on temperature decrease Cut-out on temperature increase Contact function Example for application and wiring Adjustment Determination of differential Adjust the thermostat to settings specified by the manufacturer of the controlled equipment.
- Page 4: Setting example (SPDT type) Set at 41 °F for temp. decrease and 50 °F for temp. increase. Upper Switch Point (USP): 50 °F Lower Switch Point (LSP): 41 °F Differential of 9 °F is equivalent to the indication 4 set on the Differential Adjustment Knob. Enclosed accessories include a sensor clamp for bulb fastening and a blinding sticker to cover the hole after dial knob removal. After setting, install the cover and supply power for checking the actual switching points. Calculate the differential between USP and LSP (Differential = USP – LSP; 50 °F - 41 °F = 9 °F). Scale values are indicative only. It is often necessary to use a thermometer when setting working points.
