  • Page 3: Product compliance This product complies with the essential requirements of the following EC directives: Electro-Magnetic Compatibility directive 2004/108/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EEC, EC Marking directive 93/68/EEC. Safety information These instructions are applicable to the Salus Controls model stated on the front cover of this manual only, and must not be used with any other make or model. These instructions are intended to apply in the United Kingdom only, and should be followed along with any other statutory obligations. This accessory must be fitted by a competent person, and installation must comply with the guidance provided in the current editions of BS7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations) and Part ‘P’ of the Building Regulations. Failure to comply with the requirements of these publications could lead to prosecution. Always isolate the AC Mains supply before carrying out any work on the RT100 thermostat. Please leave these instructions with the end user where they should be kept in a safe place for future reference.
  • Page 4: Introduction A thermostat is a device that is used to switch the heating system in your home on and off as needed. The RT100 from Salus Controls is a stylish and accurate mechanical thermostat with a large, easy to adjust setting dial. Features Large dial Stylish casing Volt free contacts Two wire installation Temperature range between 10 ºC and 30 ºC Operation The RT100 is adjusted very easily by turning the rotary dial on the front of the thermostat to the required temperature setting. To adjust the set temperature, turn the rotary dial to the left to set a lower temperature, or to the right to set a higher temperature.
  • Page 5: Installation Please read the important safety information at the start of this manual before you begin to install the thermostat. Location The ideal position to locate the RT100 thermostat is about 1.5m above floor level, in a location where the thermostat is accessible, reasonably lit and free from extremes of temperature and draughts. Do not mount the thermostat on an outside wall, above a radiator or in a location where it may be subjected to direct sunlight. Preparing for Installation The electrical connections to the RT100 are made inside the case. To gain access to the wiring terminals, first remove the setting dial by gently pulling it forwards. After passing the wiring through the cable entry point, the RT100 can be secured into position by the use of two screws.
  • Page 6: Electrical connections are crucial for proper operation. The terminal descriptions include mains neutral, mains live, common, normally open contact, and normally closed contact. NO contact is used for heating, while NC contact is for cooling. Do not restore the mains supply until all items are fully installed. All electrical installation work should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. Consult a qualified electrician, heating engineer, or your boiler/heating system supplier for installation advice if unsure.
  • Page 7: Reassembly of the RT100 is very straightforward; just a reversal of the steps taken earlier. Refit the cover and secure with the securing screw, and refit the setting dial: do not force the dial - it will only locate in one position. Do not remove or refit the cover of the RT100 without the mains supply to the system being isolated.
  • Page 8: Energy tip: Set your room thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature and avoid further adjustments to save energy. The RT100 thermostat requires no special maintenance; clean the outer casing with a dry cloth only. Do not use solvents, polishes, detergents, or abrasive cleaners on the thermostat. There are no user serviceable parts within the unit; servicing should be done by Salus Controls or their agents. If the RT100 thermostat fails to function correctly, check if the temperature is set correctly and if the heating system time switch is on. Salus Controls warrants the product against defects in materials or workmanship for two years from the purchase date. The warranty covers repair or replacement of defective products at Salus Controls' discretion.
