What does the sensor failure indicator mean on the ELKO TER-4?

A lit indicator above the thermostat contact symbol signals a sensor fault for that input (T1 or T2). Owner's Manual, p. 1

How does the ELKO TER-4 DIP switch set thermostat function: independent or dependent?
