VIVE TP-S-955WH Programmable Thermostat Instruction Manual Overview

Summary of Contents

  • Page 1: Installation manual provides essential information for setting up the thermostat and base module. The thermostat and base module have selectable wireless communication options with jumper switches labeled FSK and ASK. All components must be set to the same position for wireless communication. FSK is the recommended mode for communication, while ASK should be used for components that cannot communicate with FSK. A trained, experienced technician must install this product. Carefully read the instructions to avoid damaging the product or causing hazardous conditions. The thermostat should be installed approximately 4 to 5 feet above the floor in an area with average temperature and good air circulation. Avoid installing the thermostat close to hot or cold air ducts, in direct sunlight, or in areas that do not require conditioning. Disconnect the power before beginning installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage. All products are mercury-free, but if replacing a product that contains mercury, dispose of it properly.
  • Page 2: Installation tips for mounting the thermostat and base module include aligning the tabs on the subbase with the thermostat and ensuring a solid fit. To mount the subbase, it should be attached to a flat wall using provided screws, with drywall anchors flush with the wall. Battery installation is optional unless remotes are connected; if so, the thermostat must be hardwired. High-quality alkaline batteries are recommended for optimal performance. The thermostat features a quick reference guide for understanding its functions and settings. The LCD display indicates the current room temperature and time, along with system operation indicators for cooling, heating, or fan modes. A low battery indicator alerts users when batteries need replacement, with specific consequences for failing to do so. The clean display function allows for temporary cleaning of the screen, and a filter change reminder can be reset after replacing the filter. The next zone button appears if optional indoor remotes are present, allowing users to cycle through zones. System information displays which zones are controlling the system when indoor sensors are connected.
  • Page 3: Installation tips for the base module suggest placing it high on the wall inside a closet near the air conditioning unit to avoid exceeding the maximum ambient temperature. The wireless range between the thermostat and the base module can reach up to 100 feet without obstructions, but typically around 50 feet in standard residential construction. Do not install the base module in locations that could exceed 150°F, are behind a chimney, or where rain or snow could occur, as it is not weatherproof. For wireless communication setup, locate all components near the equipment and wire the base module with an 8ft pigtail for temporary mounting. If communication cannot be established, relocating the module to an area with less obstruction may help without needing to rewire. Install batteries in all devices intended for use, including the thermostat and indoor/outdoor sensors. To establish communication, press the menu button on the thermostat and follow the setup instructions. Ensure the thermostat is hardwired when using remotes and turn on the fan to confirm communication. If there is no communication between devices less than 50 feet apart, use an 8ft pigtail to reduce interference; for devices over 50 feet apart, a wireless repeater may be necessary.
  • Page 4: Wiring Reestablishing communication between master thermostat and the base module. Caution: Electrical hazard. Warning: The thermostat and base module come factory linked out of the box. If communication is lost, follow this easy two-step process to re-establish the communication link. All components of the control system and the thermostat installation must conform to Class II circuits per the NEC Code. Failure to disconnect the power before beginning to install this product can cause electrical shock or equipment damage. Step 1: Press and hold the base module button for 3 seconds. The Blue LED will flash when ready to receive the initial signal from the thermostat. If you are replacing a thermostat, make note of the terminal connections on the thermostat that is being replaced. Do not overtighten terminal block screws, as this can damage the terminal block. The C (common wire) terminal does not have to be connected when the thermostat is powered by batteries.
  • Page 5: Wiring Terminal designations on the base module Power supply Factory-installed jumper should be removed only when installing on 2-transformer systems. This thermostat is shipped from the factory to operate a conventional heating and cooling system. This thermostat may also be configured for a heat pump system. If the dehum relay requires a normally-energized input, set the dehumidity relay to NC in technician setup. This thermostat has a technician setup menu for easy installer configuration. The compressor short cycle delay protects the compressor from short cycling. Keypad lockout allows you to configure the thermostat so that some or all of the keys don’t function.
  • Page 6: Technician Setup Tech Setup Steps You can select the OFF, 1, 2, or 3 hours. This feature allows you to set a pre-occupancy fan from OFF. The setpoint temperature cannot be raised above this value. The display light can be configured to stay on all the time or come on when any key is pressed. You can select either a 12 or 24 hour clock setting. You can configure this thermostat to have a 7 day program, a 5+1+1 program or as nonprogrammable. You can configure this thermostat to have 2 or 4 programmable time periods per day. This feature allows the installer to change the calibration of the ambient humidity displayed. Balance point run time will allow the W2 auxiliary terminal to energize even if outdoor temperature is above the selected balance point temperature.
  • Page 7: Technician setup steps outline the configuration process for the thermostat. The LCD will show adjustment options based on the selected settings. Turning the thermostat ON configures it for heat pump systems. Selecting YES allows the thermostat to connect to an outdoor remote sensor. The system switch can be configured for various applications, including heat, cool, and auto modes. Indoor sensors can be connected to the thermostat, enabling multiple sensing points. The balance point setting determines when to switch between heat pump and gas furnace. Staging delay allows extra time for previous stages to satisfy the setpoint. Reminders can be set and checked in the technician setup, with options to reset them. The DHM terminal can be configured as normally-open or normally-closed for dehumidification control.
  • Page 8: Setting the humidity involves changing the target humidity setpoint. To set the day of the week and current time, press the MENU button and select the humidity button. The target humidity setpoint is not programmable and should not be programmed. Humidity is only energized during heat, while dehumidity is energized during cool. Ambient humidity will flash opposite the day and time if the optional outdoor temperature sensor is installed. The thermostat can be programmed uniquely for each day of the week or in a 5+1+1 format. Recommended indoor humidity levels vary with outdoor temperatures during heating. Consult your professional HVAC technician for recommended settings for your climate. To customize the 5+1+1 program schedule, select HEAT or COOL with the SYSTEM key. You must program heat and cool separately for the thermostat.
  • Page 9: Programming Default programming Factory default program for 2 time periods Setpoint temperature for heat and cool Day of the week events Wake/OCC1 schedule Leave/UNOCC1 and Return/OCC2 schedule Sleep/UNOCC2 settings To customize your 7 day program schedule, follow these steps The programmable fan feature will run the fan continuously during any time period it is programmed to be on.
  • Page 10: Programming To customize your 7 day program schedule, follow these steps. Temporary hold: The thermostat will display HOLD and Run Schedule on the bottom of the screen when you press the key. Permanent hold: With a temporary hold set, pressing the HOLD key will make the thermostat permanently stay at this setpoint. To return to program: Press the Run Schedule key at the bottom of the screen to exit temporary and permanent holds. Filter change reminder: A reminder will be shown in the display when your air filter needs changed. A note about auto changeover: In Auto, you can switch between Auto Heat or Auto Cool by pressing the system key. Resetting the filter change reminder: Change your air filter and reset the reminder by holding down the “Clean” key for 3 seconds. Specifications The display range of temperature is 41˚F to 95˚F (5˚C to 35˚C). The control range of temperature is 44˚F to 90˚F (7˚C to 32˚C).
