Please read the entire install manual. The thermostat will need
to be correctly wired and configured for proper operation.
Basic HVAC configuration can be performed from the
thermostat touchscreen and advanced settings are accessed
via a computer interface.
For proper operation, the thermostat should be mounted on
an inside wall in a frequently occupied area of the space. In
addition, its position must be at least 18” (46 cm) from any
outside wall, and approximately 5’ (1.5 m) above the floor in a
location with freely circulating air of an average temperature.

Summary of Contents
- Page 1: You may print or download for your use only. Please read the entire install manual. The thermostat will need to be correctly wired and configured for proper operation. For proper operation, the thermostat should be mounted on an inside wall in a frequently occupied area of the space. The X5N-SM thermostat is a StrongMesh™ network connected color touchscreen thermostat designed for new or replacement commercial or residential applications. The X5N-SM includes an integrated XBus communications port that allows wired communications when used with an NT-IPXB. Core features include a beautiful color selectable touchscreen display and StrongMesh™ self-healing wireless mesh network communications. Before you begin, turn off the power to HVAC equipment. If you are replacing an existing thermostat, take a picture of the thermostat wiring for reference. The manual includes information on thermostat setup, touchscreen user menu settings, and wiring diagram cross-reference chart. - Page 2: Reconnect power to the HVAC equipment to configure your thermostat for operation. Select between °F (Fahrenheit) or °C (Celsius) temperature display. °F is the default. Minimum On Time default is 2 minutes, with a selectable range of 0-5 minutes. Aux Heat Differential default is 1˚F (0.5˚C), selectable between 1-6˚F (0.5-3˚C). To access the Installer Menu, press and hold the Menu Button on the thermostat touchscreen for 5 seconds. Minimum Off Time default is 4 minutes, with a selectable range of 2 to 5 minutes. If no remote sensors are detected, the thermostat will default to the internal temperature sensor. Your thermostat is NOT ready to use until the Thermostat Setup section is completed. The Dot Matrix Display will provide feedback on the User Menu or Installer Menu configuration. Calibration Offset allows for a temperature adjustment range of ±6˚F (±3˚C) in 0.2˚F (0.1˚C) increments.
- Page 3: Screen lock restricts access to HVAC settings and requires a 4-digit PIN for temporary unlocking. After a power failure, the thermostat delays equipment start-up to minimize inrush current. Default setpoints can reduce heating and cooling expenses by up to 33%. Temporary override allows changing the temperature setting without affecting schedules. Remote sensor information is displayed on the thermostat if installed. The thermostat can be powered independently of the HVAC unit if necessary. Entering the correct PIN temporarily unlocks the faceplate for 30 minutes. Incorrect PIN entries will lock the thermostat for 5 minutes after three attempts. The thermostat displays filter and service indicators based on 24VAC signals. Emergency heat mode is indicated on the faceplate when engaged.
- Page 4: Independent power source specifications include rated voltage of 20V to 30VAC and rated current of 0.05 to 0.75 AC. Temperature control range for heating is 38 to 88°F and for cooling is 60 to 108°F. Thermostat sensing range is 32 to 118°F with a control accuracy of ±1°F at 68°F. Minimum deadband is 2°F. Equipment terminations include R for 24V switching voltage, W1 for Heat1, G for Fan, and Y1 for Compressor1. Power terminations specify 24V for remote power and 24V(c) for power common. Input terminations include LED1 for filter icon and LED2 for fault icon. The warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials for five years from the date of purchase. The equipment complies with Class B digital device limits per FCC regulations. Warranty is void if the date code or serial number is removed or if the product is not installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
