• Page 2: T4098A,B deluxe electric heaters Electrical ratings for noninductive resistive loads are 22A at 120/208/240 Vac, 60 Hz and 19A at 277 Vac, 60 Hz. Specifications do not include normal manufacturing tolerances, and minor differences in performance can be expected. Wiring connections include 6 in. leads suitable for aluminum wiring with approved connectors. The sensing element is a vapor-filled dual diaphragm. Setpoint adjustment is made with a knurled knob on the front of the thermostat. TRADELINE® models provide ease of stocking and handling with maximum replacement value. Differential is 2°F (1°C), nonadjustable. Mounting options include direct mounting on a vertical 2 x 4 in. outlet box or on a 4 x 4 in. outlet box using a ring adapter. Ordering information includes model number, switching, and type of finish. For additional questions or information, contact your local Honeywell sales office.

Location: Install a vertical outlet box about 5 ft above the floor in an area with good air circulation. Do not install the thermostat where it may be affected by drafts, hot air from convectors, radiant heat, concealed pipes, or unheated areas. Recycling notice: Do not place your old control containing mercury in the trash. Wiring and mounting: Handle the thermostat with care to avoid damaging the sensing element. When installing this product, read these instructions carefully to avoid damage or hazardous conditions. Check the ratings on the product to ensure suitability for your application. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician. Follow local codes and ordinances when installing this thermostat to avoid serious injury or death.
• Page 4: Disconnect the power supply to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage. All wiring must comply with local electrical codes and ordinances. Run the line voltage wiring to the thermostat location. Do not remove the T4098 Thermostat Cover. Using wire connectors approved for No. 12 wires, make line voltage connections directly to the leadwires on the thermostat. Prebend and push the solid wires into the outlet box. Mount the thermostat on the outlet box as shown in Fig. 4. Check the old wire insulation for cracks, nicks or fraying. The T4098 Thermostats are calibrated at the factory using precise instruments under closely controlled conditions. Temperature deviations of 1°F (0.5°C) are normal.
• Page 5: T4098A,B deluxe electric heater Check calibration Turn the setting knob clockwise until the switch makes a clicking sound. The heating equipment and fan start. No recalibration is necessary if the thermostat switch makes with the thermostat setting at the same temperature as indicated on the thermometer. If the thermostat setting differs from the thermometer, record the temperature difference and recalibrate as instructed in the recalibration procedure section. Use the range stops to limit the maximum and minimum temperatures that may be set. Locking the cover prevents unauthorized tampering of the thermostat temperature setting. Remove the thermostat cover to access calibration and range stop adjustments. Insert the locking cover clip into the slot on the back of the thermostat base. Secure the locking cover screw in place until it is flush with the thermostat base.
• Page 6: T4098A,B deluxe electric heater thermostat Make sure that all wiring connections are secure before beginning checkout. After thermostat installation is complete, check operation as follows: Move the thermostat setting knob clockwise until the switch makes a clicking sound; the electric heater starts. Move the setting knob fully counterclockwise; the switch breaks and the electric heater stops. Allow the thermostat to operate for several hours to determine the appropriate temperature setting. The T4098 thermostat provides precise temperature control of resistance-rated electric baseboard heating equipment with minimum droop. The vapor-filled dual diaphragm sensing element is more sensitive to temperature changes than a bimetal sensor. Temperature control points may vary or droop depending on the load demand; however, temperature settings are adjusted to provide offset. The T4098 provides precise control with minimum droop, allowing better control of room temperatures while saving energy.
