  • Page 2: Installation guide for wallplate installation includes important steps and cautions. Separate the wallplate from the thermostat. Mount the wallplate as shown in the instructions. Drill 3/16” holes for drywall and 7/32” holes for plaster. Installation must be performed by a trained, experienced technician. Read the instructions carefully to avoid product damage or hazardous conditions. Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage. If replacing a control that contains mercury, do not dispose of it in the trash. Contact local waste management authority for recycling and proper disposal instructions.
  • Page 3: Power options include primary or backup power with supplied batteries. For 24VAC primary power, connect the common side of the transformer to the C terminal. Remove the factory-installed jumper only for two-transformer systems. Push excess wire back into the wall opening and plug it with non-flammable insulation. Terminal designations apply specifically to TH8320/TH8321 models. Conventional terminal letters include R for heating power, C for common wire, W for heat relay, and Y for compressor contactor. Cooling power connections are designated by Rc for cooling power and C for common wire from the cooling transformer. Heat pump terminal letters include W for 1st stage heat relay, Y for 1st stage compressor contactor, and Y2 for 2nd stage compressor contactor. Auxiliary/Emergency heat relay is designated as Aux/E. Optional outdoor or remote sensors are labeled S1 and S2. The changeover valve for heat pumps is indicated by O/B.
