  • Page 4: Program index wheel controls high and low temperature at specific times of day as set by program pins. Program pins must be inserted into 24-hour timer dial slots to control the program index wheel. Pins slots are located on the 24-hour dial at 10-minute intervals for program pin insertion. The program dial is a 24-hour dial with a light band to indicate daytime and a dark band to indicate nighttime. The heat anticipator scale plate is calibrated to match the heating system's current draw in amperes. The anticipator setting lever must be adjusted to match the heating system's primary control current. The mercury bulb and bimetal element provide automatic temperature control by switching the heating or cooling system on or off.
  • Page 5: Wallplate provides mounting base and wiring connections for heating-only or cooling-only thermostat. Subbase is optional and not included with thermostat; it provides mounting base, wiring connections, and manual switching control for heating/cooling thermostat. Refer to the Setting Subbase Switches section for additional information.
  • Page 6: Setting the temperature For heating: - Set the left lever (blue mark) to the energy saving temperature you want when you are sleeping or your home is unoccupied. - Set the right lever (red mark) to the temperature you want for normal comfort periods. - You may override the time program by setting both the red and blue levers to the same temperature setpoint. For cooling: - Set the left lever (blue mark) to the temperature you want for normal comfort periods. - Set the right lever (red mark) to the energy saving temperature you want when you are sleeping or your home is unoccupied.
  • Page 7: Insert timer batteries. Battery location for two AAA batteries. Install with positive ends up. Power is supplied to the timer by the 24 Vac transformer, two AAA alkaline batteries, or by the heating or cooling control circuit. Backup batteries may be installed to supply power to the timer if power is interrupted. Install batteries in thermostat as shown in Fig. 2. Replace batteries once a year or when dead with two new AAA alkaline batteries. We recommend Energizer® batteries. Properly dispose of old batteries.
  • Page 8: Setting the timer involves lifting the thermostat flip-up cover to access the 24-hour program dial. The timer should be adjusted to the current time by turning the knob clockwise. Do not reverse the knob to avoid damaging the timer mechanism. The time indicator arrow will point to the correct time and the corresponding daytime or nighttime band of the program dial. For example, at 11 PM, the time indicator arrow points to the dark band, while at 11 AM, it points to the light band. When Daylight Saving Time starts, move the knob clockwise one hour. When Daylight Saving Time ends, adjust the knob accordingly. Refer to the provided figure for visual guidance on setting the timer. The program dial is slotted in 10-minute increments for precise adjustments. Ensure the time is correctly set for accurate timer functionality.
  • Page 9: Programming your thermostat allows for automatic temperature adjustments throughout the day. The 24-hour program dial features slots for program pins that can be inserted at 10-minute intervals. Three red program pins indicate high-temperature periods, while three blue pins indicate low-temperature periods. A heating program is preprogrammed with a red pin set for 6:00 AM. The flip-up cover reveals the program dial and its components. The program index wheel and time indicator arrow assist in setting the desired schedule. Program pin storage is available for easy access to the pins. Refer to the diagram (Fig. 4) for a visual representation of the program components. The thermostat can be customized based on the number of program pins used. Adjustments can be made for both day and night settings.
  • Page 10: Temperature settings can be adjusted using pins for comfort and energy saving periods. A blue pin indicates low temperature for energy saving, while a red pin indicates high temperature for comfort. You can set up to six temperature changes with the supplied pins. It is recommended to have at least five hours for each energy saving period. Reset the pins when seasons change and adjust lever positions accordingly. To set the heating program, insert a red pin one-half hour before the desired comfort level. For energy saving periods, insert a blue pin at the corresponding time notch. Pins should be inserted straight into the program dial until fully seated. To remove a pin, press against the program dial and pull it straight out. Both day and night programs can be set for heating/cooling systems.
  • Page 11: Setting subbase switches controls system operation. The subbase fan switch controls fan operation. HEAT mode allows the heating system to be controlled by the thermostat while the cooling system is off. COOL mode allows the cooling system to be controlled by the thermostat while the heating system is off. OFF mode turns off both heating and cooling systems, and if the fan switch is set to AUTO, the fan is also off. ON mode in cooling-only applications allows only cooling to operate, and in heating-only applications, only heating operates. The fan operates continuously when set to ON. In AUTO mode, the fan operates with cooling or heating equipment as controlled by the thermostat or plenum fan switch. In electric heat, heat pump, and fan coil systems, the fan is controlled by the thermostat in both heating and cooling. To switch positions, slide the lever to the desired position, ensuring it stops in the detent over the desired function indicator mark.
  • Page 12: Troubleshooting Check the program dial for proper day or night phase. Turn the timer ahead 12 hours. Turn the energy saving temperature program knob clockwise only. Timer program for the heating system may need more time to warm up rooms. Move the red pin one-half hour earlier on the program dial. Temperature change occurs at the wrong time. Relocate program pins to desired settings. Positions of thermostat set points are not correct. Reset to desired temperatures. Move the position of the subbase system switch to the desired operating position.
  • Page 13: Troubleshooting Heating mode—Move temperature setting levers 5°F [3°C] above room temperature. Heating system should start. Cooling mode—Move temperature setting levers 5°F [3°C] below room temperature. Cooling system should start. If the system does not operate, call a qualified service technician. Burner-on time too short—Increase anticipator setting by 0.05 (e.g., 0.4 to 0.45). Observe burner operation. Burner-on time too long—Decrease anticipator setting by 0.05 (e.g., 0.45 to 0.4). Observe burner operation.
  • Page 14: Troubleshooting No cooling. System switch may be in OFF or HEAT position. Move switch to COOL position. Fuse or circuit breaker. If fuse is blown or breaker tripped, replace or reset. If fuse blows again, call the heating and air conditioning dealer. Condenser switch position. Located outdoors and may be turned off. Move to ON position. Thermostat connections. Check for correct terminal hookups. Repair any frayed or broken wires. Firmly tighten all terminal screws. Other. Contact a qualified service technician for assistance.
  • Page 15: Troubleshooting Thermostat setting level position of thermostat and thermometer reading disagree. Reinstall thermostat wallplate or subbase using a spirit level. Check area around thermostat for drafts or radiant heat. Thermostat should be about 5 ft above floor on an inside wall. Contact qualified service technician for change of location. Calibration of thermometer is necessary; see Thermometer Adjustment section. Timer does not run if thermostat connections at the two C terminals are missing. Batteries may not have been installed; install as shown in the figure. Batteries may need replacement; replace with two new AAA alkaline batteries. If new batteries are installed and timer still does not run, replace thermostat.
  • Page 16: Troubleshooting Timer does not run. Check voltage across the two C terminals. Remove thermostat from the wallplate or subbase and measure the voltage. Pins in program dial may be jamming with the index wheel. Push down on pins to ensure they are completely seated in the program dial. Timer loses time. Power may be interrupted. Make sure power is on and reset the timer. High limit control may be affecting power to the timer. If powered through the system transformer, power to the timer and equipment may be off on safety. A clogged filter can cut off power to the system. Replace the filter and reset the timer.
  • Page 17: Troubleshooting Timer loses time Batteries may need replacement. Replace with two new AAA alkaline batteries. Not applicable on model used in heating-only system. Not applicable on model used in cooling-only system. If timer is not battery powered, timer may still use batteries for backup. If this Troubleshooting section did not solve the problem, call a qualified service technician for additional assistance.

  • Page 19: Servicing the thermostat Cycle rate adjustment The equipment should cycle on and off just enough to keep the room temperature close to the temperature lever settings. If the thermostat seems to cycle the heating system too fast or too slow, adjust the cycle rate by moving the anticipator setting lever one indicator mark at a time. Observe the heating system operation after each adjustment. Most hot water systems require a setting of 1.2A.
  • Page 20: Thermometer adjustment is necessary only if it has been dropped or mishandled. The thermometer was accurately calibrated at the factory. Replace the thermostat cover and put the system into operation after adjustment. If the setpoint lever and thermometer reading do not agree, follow the adjustment procedure. Set the thermostat cover on a table near a thermometer of known accuracy. Allow at least five minutes for the cover thermometer to sense area temperature. Compare the readings carefully without touching or breathing on the thermometer. If readings are different, use a small screwdriver to adjust the thermometer until both read the same. Refer to the provided figure for thermometer adjustment guidance. Ensure the system is operational after confirming the thermometer readings match.
