  • Page 2: Getting Started Install Thermostat Savant recommends having the following tools available for installation. Position the back plate in the desired location. Use the built-in bubble level to ensure the back plate is correctly positioned. Ensure there are no pipes or wires behind the wall when tools are marked. Caution! When replacing an old thermostat that contains mercury, do not discard it into the trash. Before attempting installation, power off the HVAC system. Remove Old Thermostat If the old thermostat has 110/120V wires with wire nuts, it is a high voltage system. The GE Smart Thermostat - Works with Savant is not compatible with high voltage systems. Factory Reset Performing a factory reset wipes the configuration and removes the assigned IP address of the thermostat. Look for a wire connected to the C terminal. The GE Smart Thermostat - Works with Savant is powered by a C wire. Location and Mounting Overview Locate the thermostat on an inside wall away from windows and doors to reduce exposure to drafts or direct sunlight. Install away from any heating or cooling conditions such as near a radiator, vent, or fireplace. To adhere to ADA requirements, install the thermostat 48 - 54 inches above the floor.
  • Page 3: Manual setup The GE Smart Thermostat works with Savant if access to Wi-Fi or the Savant Power & Light app is unavailable. Switch the thermostat HVAC mode to OFF. Press and hold both buttons – and + together for 10 seconds to enter the Manual Setup mode. Use the – and + buttons to navigate to the desired HVAC system configuration. Important notes Setting the power wires incorrectly may cause damage to the HVAC equipment and/or the thermostat. The GE Smart Thermostat is not rated for outdoor environments. Most thermostat functions still work when not connected to Wi-Fi. Scheduling, remote control, and OTA updates require the thermostat to be connected to a wireless network with WAN access. Humidity, dehumidifiers, and vents are not supported.
