Power Input 24V AC (18V AC - 32V AC) 150 mA RMS typical, 300 mA maximum Cable Requirements #18 AWG thermostat wire (solid) Getting Started Savant recommends having the following tools available for installation: Pencil, #2 Phillips screwdriver, small slotted screwdriver, drill with 5/32 inch drill bit, wire stripper, needle nose pliers, measuring tape. CAUTION! When replacing an older thermostat that contains mercury in a sealed tube, do not discard it into the trash.
- Page 2: Remove old thermostat Scroll through and record the current settings and schedules from the old thermostat. Switch OFF power at either the breaker panel or the switch that controls the HVAC system. Open the old thermostat and take a photo of the existing thermostat and wiring. Remove each wire recorded and attach a label that matches the terminal designation from the old thermostat. For new installations or when relocating the thermostat, follow the guidelines below. Locate thermostat on an inside wall away from windows and doors to reduce exposure to drafts or direct sunlight. To adhere to ADA requirements, install thermostat 48 - 54 inches above the floor. The thermostat does not need to be level to operate correctly. Position the mounting plate onto the wall and mark the two mounting holes.
- Page 3: Making connections requires following specific guidelines for safety and security. Use a small slotted screwdriver to turn the screws in the connector counterclockwise until the silver crimps open enough to slide the wire(s) into the square slots. Strip back insulation on each wire to 1/4 inch and insert the stripped wire into the proper connection. Turn screws clockwise until the crimps tighten around each wire and gently tug on each wire to verify they are secure. The CLI-W220x requires a separate power source to operate, with voltage applied between the RC and 24C terminals. For new installations, connect the wire from the 24V AC HVAC transformer to the RC terminal. When using two transformers, the HVAC system contains three power wires (R, C, and RC). Remove the jumper shunt when the HVAC system contains separate transformers. The RH terminal supplies power to the relays connected to terminals W1, W2, and O. The 24C terminal is the common terminal, required for the thermostat to run.
- Page 4: HVAC wiring connections depend on the type of HVAC system installed. Power wires may be the only wires required in some installations. Refer to the Making Connections section for safe and secure connections. Additional information on terminal designators and wiring is available in the Multistat Smart Thermostat Deployment Guide. The GE Wireless Bluetooth temperature sensor allows for optimal sensor placement for accurate readings. The sensor must be within Bluetooth range of the thermostat, up to 25 feet in open air. Up to six GE Wireless Bluetooth temperature sensors can be connected to a CLI-W220 at a time. The CLI-W220x includes two thermistor ports for 10K type temperature sensors. 10K sensors do not observe any polarity. Savant offers a range of compatible 10K type sensors for the CLI-W220x.
- Page 5: Connect to a network How to connect or on-board the thermostat to the local Wi-Fi network from the on-screen menu is described below. Apply power to the thermostat. Verify the Select Network To Connect screen opens. All local networks will be listed. Enter the password for the network using the on-screen keyboards. Select DONE when complete. The thermostat will verify the password credentials and connect to the network. The Configure HVAC System screen opens once the thermostat connects to the network. Edit basic settings for the HVAC system using this device or continue using the HVAC web portal. Select the SKIP button to bypass the onboarding process and go directly to the Configure HVAC System screens. Performing a factory reset wipes the configuration and removes the assigned IP address of the thermostat. After about a 10 second delay, the thermostat will reboot. Select the Mode icon from the Main screen of the thermostat.
- Page 6: Climate modules expand the capabilities of the thermostat. The modules available include CLI-1WIRE2, CLI-10K4IN, CLI-AUX3, CLI-REL1AUX1, and CLI-PTAC1K1. CLI-1WIRE2 adds up to four 1-wire smart sensors to the system. CLI-10K4IN adds up to four 10K Ω type temperature sensors to the system. CLI-AUX3 adds up to three additional auxiliary relays to the system. CLI-REL1AUX1 adds a set of climate relays and one auxiliary relay to the system. CLI-PTAC1K1 adds relays for use with a PTAC and one 10K Ω temperature sensor. Savant climate modules require 24V AC for power. RS-485 wiring must be connected using a daisy-chained fashion. A 120 Ω terminating resistor may be required on longer wire runs.
- Page 7: Example 1 shows eight CLI-REL1AUX1 relay modules. Each module uses the HVAC signaling outputs to control a separate zone. Any combination of CLI-REL1AUX1 and CLI-PTAC1K1 modules that equal eight zones is acceptable. Any number of sensor type modules can be added once the eight zones are established. Modules such as the CLI-1WIRE2 and CLI-10K4IN do not affect the maximum. Example 2 shows 3 Aux Relay modules with each relay output controlling a separate damper. Each damper is considered a different zone. Therefore, the maximum number of 8 zones is reached. Any combination of CLI-AUX3 and CLI-REL1AUX1 modules that equal 8 dampers/zones is acceptable. Once the 8 zones are established, any number of sensor modules can be added. Use the diagram for reference only.
- Page 8: Frequently Asked Questions: The CLI-W220x requires 24V AC that is typically available from a transformer or similar in the HVAC system. The thermostat periodically receives Over The Air (OTA) updates automatically from the Savant Cloud. Most thermostat functions still work when not connected to Wi-Fi, but features requiring a network connection will not. If the thermostat was purchased through a contractor or retailer, contact them to return it. Both Fahrenheit and Celsius are supported. Humidity can be monitored by the included GE Bluetooth Temperature Sensor or an optional remote 1-wire combination temperature smart sensor. The thermostat can function as either a single or dual setpoint thermostat. Scheduling is set up only via the Savant Pro App Climate service. When configured through the web UI, the user can decide which sensors to use and whether to take the average humidity reading. Each thermostat supports a maximum of 8 zones, and the maximum number of climate modules is determined by the number of zones.
